1. Obviously, I will have to cancel the unit test. If, however, you complete all three story analysis worksheets attached to the packets and leave it on my desk by Friday, I will give you extra credit. Please keep in mind that you will only receive credit if you complete the work on your own. I would rather see what you still need to learn than perfect answers that you copied from someone else.
2. Please have your independent reading book in class each day so that you can read.
3. Every year we have a school-wide spelling bee. I am allowed to pick one winner from each class to participate in the school spelling bee on Friday January 12th. Our classroom bee that will determine this will be on Thursday 12/21. Mr. Catapano will be running it. Winners will then have the opportunity to move from there to Hoftra, to the state spelling bee, and to the National Spelling Bee that is televised on ESPN (for real)! This is also the biggest opportunity to win bonus points in my class all year. Here's how it will work:
--2nd or 3rd Place in the Classroom Bee=5 Bonus Points
--1st Place in the Classroom Bee=10 Bonus Points
--2nd or 3rd Place in the Merrick Avenue Bee=10 Additional Bonus Points
--1st Place in the Merrick Avenue Bee=20 Additional Bonus Points
--Additional points for placing in Long Island, State, or National Bee
You may study alone. You may also study with each other as long as you do not disturb anyone and the substitute says that it is okay.
I am allowed to give you the words to study for the classroom round at this point. Because you will be competing with 8th graders (7th graders have beaten them in half of the bees so do not let this concern you), you will need to study both the 7th grade AND 8th grade lists. Here they are:
